Crete in kindergarten

A well-timed example of the benefits of family learning courtesy of our 6 year old son.

His kindergarten class was discussing places in the world and the subject of travel came up for him in his writing assignment. Travel being part of our family mission, both kids have taken an interest in all things travel, and we’ve been talking about Crete and Greece (2020) for months. And yet, somehow, we were still surprised and quite entertained, by his submission.

Not only does he want to go to Crete, with his sister no less, but he remembered one of the pictures we saw of and ancient ship in the Maritime Museums of Crete in Chania when we were first working on possible itineraries as a family last fall. (The dolphins painted on the ship are inspired by imagery from Knossos we believe.)

He’s really making us look good here but a few points to emphasize

  1. including kids in planning really does make a difference
  2. kids really can and do listen, especially when they are included in discussions
  3. learning together is one of the best parts of family travel
  4. school provides so many opportunities to connect with your kids and travel
  5. we can’t wait to go to Crete!!

talk soon,
